When you plan your own holiday, you need to plan for your pets as well.
You update your passport, apply for visas, book tickets and warn the
relatives they are about to have the pleasure of your company. What
about your pets?
Basically, there are three options. You can book your pets into boarding kennels, arrange for someone to “pet-sit” for you or ask a neighbour to look after your animals. The safest option, particularly for a prolonged absence, is to book your pets into boarding kennels. They may not enjoy the visit but they will be safe and guaranteed regular food and water. Do book up well ahead of the holiday season. Some pets – particularly cats – may do better at home with a “pet-sitter” to look after them. For this you need a friend who is willing to move into your home temporarily and treat your pets with the same loving care that you would. Option three is to ask a friend or neighbour to come in and feed your pets while you are away. Obviously, it is best to have someone very reliable and lives close by. They should know your pet and your pet should know and trust them. Whatever option you choose, write down all feeding instructions, medication to be given, plus contact numbers for you and your veterinarian. OK. Now try to enjoy your trip. |
