A “slip noose”, made by passing the clip-end of a flexible dog lead through its loop, is dangled in front of the dog until it can be passed over the head. The slip noose is then tightened round the neck by a quick pull on the lead. Keep the lead held high to prevent the dog from biting at or even through it. |

First tie a half-hitch in a length of gauze or strong tape, keeping the ends fairly strong. Then, with the dog firmly restrained, place the loop of tape around the dog’s nose. By pulling the ends sideways draw the loop tight, closing the dog’s jaws. Immediately bring the ends downwards and cross the right to left and left to right underneath the lower jaw. Keep the tape tight and draw the ends backwards. Finally, tie a tight bow at the back of the dog’s head, making sure that the knot is in front of the dog’s collar. Check that the tape-muzzle is secure. |
